JanWhat We Need, In My Opinion
I’m still not feeling well, have been battling with cold symptoms for like a month and then as I mentioned Friday I had flu symptoms and right now my sinuses are all clogged up. Someone recommended getting something with Zync in it, and i’ll be better in no time. Well I’m not really sure what Zync is but I went to Walgreen’s and checked out all of the cold medicines and found Zinc losenges and Zicom nose spray, and does it ever work. I feel a lot better already! Okay, so that’s my sales pitch for the day.
Well I was watching some TV today, and since I’m not into most of what is on TV, I of course watched the news or political stuff. There were some people complaining today about the media being too liberal. The conservatives were saying that the media has brought everyone against Bush, and the liberals were saying that Bush brought everyone against himself with his no-taxes more spending policies. Everyone is filing their taxes and getting their returns this time of year so everyone’s talking about taxes now, and Bush’s tax cuts seem to be backfiring. On this rare occasion I think I’d have to agree with the liberal side, along with most of the rest of America, we need to pay taxes.
Minnesota’s governor, on the other hand, I really have some issues with. He makes huge cuts on higher education and public education and then gives $600 Million to build a new professional sports stadium. I’m not sure what he’s trying to do but according to the Star Tribune the economy in Minnesota is at its worst in a while. But then again, I’m reading the editorial page and remember the media is really liberal. Especially the Star Tribune’s editorial page. The CEO of the bank that I work for has refused to advertise in the Tribune since November 2001 because it’s so unbalanced.
The media has told us what to eat, drink, drive, etc for years so why can’t they tell us who to vote for? I’d agree that it’s in our best interest not to have the media telling us everything that we should do but maybe the liberals are right, maybe Bush got himself into this, maybe it isn’t the media maybe he’s just really doing such a bad job that the media doesn’t have anything equally good to say about him.
I’ve been watching the candidates really closely this year, and what we need is someone who will spend money and tax us not lower taxes and spend money, and we need someone as strong on terrorism and someone interested in actually doing something with Iraq. No, I don’t mean pull everyone out of Iraq and let them deal with themself. I was looking at some statistics and only 13% of America are below the poverty line. Do we honestly expect to ever be at 0%? I don’t think that’s possible. 13% is pretty good in my opinion. Most Middle Eastern and African countries are in the 80% range. If you think our problems are more important than theirs, then that’s awfully selfish. I could be wrong, though.
So I’m getting stressed out again. I was telling someone that I actually kind of wish I was in North Dakota relaxing right now. They laughed at me and asked why, since there’s nothing in North Dakota. I explained that I think that the virtue of North Dakota life is that nothing happens there. The good things happen enough, and the bad things happen rarely. People live there because you can open the window and breathe the air without getting a chestful of bus-perfume; the grates on the sidewalk don’t blow up gusts of electrified-bum-pee, and everything is so clean you can eat off it. Well, not literally. You feel safe as the worst of the world seems very far away.
But Minnesota isn’t all that bad, it could be worse I guess. Walking outside of the downtown Target while some guy was screaming explitives at the top of his lungs at people who wouldn’t give him money was scary the other day, I thought he was going to pull out a gun and start shooting. I started checking my pockets to make sure I had change in case he started chasing after me. I guess it made me wish I was somewhere else.
