AugDamn Computers!
My computer has a little feature where whenever there’s an update for the system a little window pops up and asks me to download the new updates. Well there was a new security update so I downloaded that and installed it on the system, and when I restarted the computer as it forced me to do, I logged back in to find that nothing worked. I couldn’t drag and drop, there were no icons on anything, all of my settings were reset to the default and I couldn’t change them back, it was a mess.
I went to the Apple Store and talked to them, they were just closing so they couldn’t really dig into it, they just recommended having the permissions repaired, but I’d already done that. I’ve found if anything goofy ever happens on my Macintosh, just repair the permissions and it usually fixes it. Well apparently not this time.
So then I called Apple and they suggested deleting some preferences files that were probably corrupted and that didn’t work, they recommended a couple other things that didn’t work, and then ultimately it ended up that so much was corrupted apparently that I would either need to send my computer in and have them back all my stuff up so that they can erase the hard drive and reinstall the operating system, or do basically that by myself. I did that by myself, but now I’m regretting it. I got the computer fixed after doing that and hours of reinstalling everything, but then I realized that I forgot to back up a few things.
1) my addresses, 2) my archive of past emails, and 3) all of my pictures, including the ones I just took at Brainerd. The pictures aren’t that important but it’s disappointing to have lost them, but the address book and emails is a big problem. I have lost important records of contact and instructions with some of my freelance clients and I’ve also lost many important email addresses that I don’t have stored anywhere else. So I’m really in a frenzy over that right now, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time. I was really scrambling Monday and Tuesday over midterms since I was gone for the weekend. I was scrambling to get a package design done for tomorrow, but now it’s been extended to next week on Tuesday so now I have the weekend to finish that up.
So I’m having a bad week. Hopefully things will lighten up as it’s winding down. Talk to you tomorrow.
