MarDid I Miss Something?
My hometown’s newspaper has a section that they run every week called “Just Folks.” It’s a silly little section where the elderly people can announce what they did in the previous week. This includes who visited them, who called them, what they had for breakfast, etc. It’s really quite silly and makes it pretty clear to any outsiders that it’s a pretty eventless town.
I was alerted that someone printed a bit of a boo-boo about Lizzie and I in this particular section of the newspaper, and I wanted to address it here before the rumors started flying. Well, I’m sure it’s too late for that, but I should address it anyhow. The image on the right is what was printed. No, Lizzie and I did not get married without telling anyone, in fact we aren’t even officially engaged. If this were to take place, believe me, this news would be published here long before such news would ever make the Griggs County Sentinel Courier. Something was probably just scrambled in translation as my Grandmother babbled what she had done for the weekend to the lady who works at the paper. The “Just Folks” section has always been a big joke. You would think it’s so lame that you just wouldn’t even read it, but for some reason it was always the first section I’d turn to in that paper to see what was written about people I know, so that I could laugh at them. My best friend’s Grandmother was always quite good about making sure that she made the “Just Folks” section every week, and my friend usually ended up getting his entire week schedule disclosed. It was always something to pick on him about, I guess now it’s my turn.
I’m glad the whole town got to know I was there and I didn’t bother to say hello to them. I pretty much drove in, said hello to the family, and left. I didn’t even visit any places of business. Didn’t even contribute to the town’s economy! Geez, I’ve become awfully stuck up! Nah seriously, I just didn’t have time to visit anyone else. We were there for 4 hours. 4 newsworthy hours.
Not much is new around here. My cold is finally getting better, but the weather isn’t. We’re still getting 20’s and 30’s, and a little snow today. See you next time.
