NovA Thanks To All The Heroes
Today is Veteran’s Day, and I’d like to just say thank you to all who served their time in our defense, whether you fought in war or not. I am eternally grateful for your sacrifice, no matter how small. Thank you for defending our rights, which so many take for granted, that make our nation great. Thank you for allowing me to grow up in freedom.
Today most of us have our minds and hearts with our friends and family in Iraq. But we should never forget those who served in past wars. They fought so most of our generation didn’t have to. Not to mention that they saved Western civilization from fascism.
But the way many discredit pretty much everything that today’s brave soldiers are doing for the world is difficult for me to understand. It seems that many are willing to rewrite history, even if it makes our troops’ sacrificies and hard work seem pointless, all just to further their political agenda. In the news recently, President Bush lashed out at these revisionist historians in a speech where he said:
“When I made the decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power, Congress approved it with strong bipartisan support. While it’s perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began.”
I agree. Many of those who are questioning the reason for war were in support of it and voted to approve it, but in an effort to oppose the Administration and gain political traction, they have magically forgotten about that and have made it seem to the public that they have been against it all along. They ignore the fact that there have been investigations already showing no wrong doing. To them it doesn’t matter, they keep re-asking the same questions until they get the answers they want, no matter who it hurts along the way. That’s the way it works in politics, I guess.
I only bring this up because I want to make it clear that I support everything our troops are doing. I think it’s important that our troops know we support them. I don’t know what it’s like to be a soldier – especially one at war – but I know that I would want my country’s support. If I were over there and saw all the discord this country has seen in the past couple of years, I don’t know what I would think. I wouldn’t want to be out there fighting for a cause my country feels is wrong. I want them to know they’re doing a good thing, and that their sacrifice is not being made for the wrong reasons.
To those who decided to change their position about this war because of the political advantage that would result: shame on you. To all of the men and women out there who are serving or had served, thanks again. Ignore the pety politics, you are above it. You’re the greatest heroes the world has ever seen.
