A Fair Day
August has been a busy month this year, it’s hard to believe it will be September already in less than a week. Late August always means it’s time for the Minnesota State Fair, which is quite the exciting event even for people who aren’t farmers. We went this Saturday, and had a great time as always wandering around the fairgrounds and having some traditional “on a stick” fair food.
The rest of this past summer has been all about getting back in touch with family and friends. Even though I’m no more than just a few hours away from my family and old friends up North, the past few years I felt like I never got to see anyone. It was like they all picked up these new nuances, attitudes and opinions that I wasn’t privy too. It seemed as though there was a joke always being told and I wasn’t in on it.
But this summer I made an effort to show my face around there a lot more, and my efforts were successful. It’s been nice to not feel like a visiting stranger or a distant relative in for a quick holiday weekend whenever I go up there.
It seems like time is really passing by way too quickly lately. I can’t believe this summer is already winding down. I keep wondering if there isn’t something that I may have missed or if I’m too late for something because time just went by way too quickly. As I was driving to work one morning last week, feeling kind of down in the dumps, I glanced out off the freeway out in the off-streets to see a large sign in a parking lot that exclaimed “STOP! GO BACK! NO EXIT!”
I felt like the world was just talking to me, you know?
